I am looking at a very long list. I have inherited this disease from Jacqui.
It is called 'Lists are Very Important' and my list has both a significant number of headings and a frightening number of sub-headings. Plus dates. 62 days is not long enough! But like Napoleon who could offer his generals more troops, more cavalry and more guns, the one thing he could not offer them was more time. So like Napoleon, we will be ready on the day.
This morning's main focus has been, 'The Stand'. I had it all mapped out until an email arrived from the Expo organisers. Branding issues, restrictions and State of Nevada regulations have meant a total rethink. Fortunately, John at the excellent Textiles Alive has come to the rescue. New plans are being drawn up as I type.
And so to the marketing of 'The Stand'. Julien at JML Communications has taken this baby on board. We are meeting in Auckland to work out the logistics. And hopefully start the process of knocking off some of those threatening sub-headings.
Tomorrow, the focus is product. A meeting at WaikatoLink followed by a meeting with FRST to discuss their new Postgraduate Internship Program.
The list goes on.........

Investor Relations
On Wednesday night, we hosted our half yearly Investor Presentation here at The Smart Business Centre.
Having caught 'man-flu' last weekend, it was a challenge both for me and our investors. I stuck to the water whilst they stuck into the goodies. I know which I would have preferred.
Investor presentations are a great way to take stock of where you are and where you are going. I was able to update the team on where I had been and what the road map for the next few months looked like. I think it is fair to say that they were supportive of the plans. Not for nothing, they call themselves 'Good Bastards'. I will leave it to Nick and Toby to explain that one!
As we move forward, communication with the investment team is going to become ever more important. We are trying to apply the same core principals that are required for publicly quoted companies.
Julien Leys from JML Communications spoke to the meeting and outlined our longer term Investor Communication strategy. For a relatively small start-up company, our approach might appear to be a highly structured. Long term however, it puts a process in place that will require little amendment. Transparency and openness now will pay dividends in the long term.
As will the goodies!

And the Winner was........
I can't actually say right now. I believe JML Communications will be press releasing that information later today.
What I can say is that the judging experience at the 2009 Technium Challenge demonstrated the depth of amazing technology and innovation that is coming out of New Zealand's brightest companies. There were six finalists. They represented different sectors, but the one thing they all had in common was an intense desire to grow - and global development was at the core of their strategy.
In my view, there were six winners on Wednesday. They did themselves and this country proud.

Pingar in the Media
I have said before that it is often very difficult to be totally transparent when blogging. Things are happening in the background which you know of, but cannot write about. That is surely true at this time at Pingar.
And then the day arrives when something is either signed off or a Confidentiality Agreement terminates and you can actually post something more substantive.
Finally, enough breaking news is available to enable you can prepare a release. That's where JML Communications come in.
And so it is that within the past 24 hours, a couple of great articles have appeared online. One was produced by The National Business Review. The other by IT Week. In the next few days you will also be able to download a PDF of re-Think, the University of Waikato Management School journal. This is being distributed free of charge with copies of both the New Zealand Herald and The Dominion Post next week. It contains a good article about Pingar's R & D work with the Hothouse team at Waikatolink.
Now though we turn full cycle to me knowing new stuff which I cannot actually post about. And so the process goes on. One hint however....just one.
My prediction for 2009 is that this process might just speed up a tad. It is amazing what extra resource can do in terms of assisting execute The Plan. That means more developments, more concluded NDAs and more breaking news. That at least is part of The Plan!

Wellington Bound

It's been some time since I last visited Wellington. So the trip to Thrive Wellington next week is not before time.
The event features a number of keynote speakers. And by all accounts from the 2007 version, it provides a great forum for new ideas.
The visit to 'Windy' will also enable me to catch up with a number of people I have been meaning to contact for some time. A lot has happened with Pingar since my last visit. Gareth Davies of International Business Wales is presenting and I hope to meet up with Julien from JML Communications.
I'll be in town for three days. If you read this blog and fancy a coffee, then drop me a line today.

Investor Relations
Time to unzip a little.
Pingar is closing its first funding round. And the great news is that it is investors in Tauranga who have fronted up. Conceived in the Bay, Pingar stays in the Bay.
As the funding round and new structure take effect, the focus is now on executing the business plan and model that they have invested in. So eyes are now firmly set on the Pingar team in London, UK, where so much of the operational grunt will now take place.
Given the broadening of the investor base, a formal investor communications strategy now needs to be enacted. JML Communications will advise on this.
There is however one significant Kiwi benefit of a localised investment community. It is called the Friday 'shout'. Not perhaps the most internationally recognised investor relations model, but one we will test here. I would expect bartenders on the Strand will be at the ready.

Link to JML
One good link deserves another.
Many thanks to Julien at JML Communications for his incisive link to this blog. In the world of Communications & PR strategy in NZ, Julien and his team at JML are right up there.
I was first introduced to JML about 18 months ago. They understand start-ups and they understand this crazy space we occupy. Building a story is one thing: Understanding and believing in it is another. JML do all three.
I can't really say much more.
Except, 'Thanks guys'.

MediaPeople in Tauranga

I met up with David Reade of Media People at a lunchtime presentation in Tauranga today. I have used their MediaNZonline product before. So does our PR & Communications agency, JML Communications.
David demonstrated the new version today. It has extra functionality, but the nice thing was the new interface. Very intuitive, very easy to use.
The best user interfaces have the same thing in common. KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. The latest version of MediaNZOnline does just that.

Pingar Media

One of the very few public commentaries about Pingar over the past six months has been this blog. That is no accident.
Our presence at the UK Technology, Innovation & Growth Forum in London though, changes all that. Given the increased public profile that Pingar will enjoy, it is time to communicate our message to a wider public.
So it was with that brief that JML Communications sent out a press release yesterday outlining our participation at this event. It will be interesting to record the media take up of our presence and the message this gives to the NZ ICT and investment communities.
Over the past 48 hours, I have had the privilege of sharing some thoughts with our house guest, Sir David Mitchell, about this. David served as a Minister in Northern Ireland, the Home Office and Transport, during Margaret Thatcher's reign in the 1980's. There is not a lot about the media he does not understand. For me though, it is a new venture. The next few days will be interesting.

Pingar Meets Inferno

John Beer is talking to Inferno PR this week, in London to help communicate Pingar's strategic relationship with Microsoft.
In New Zealand, I am working with Julien and Kim at JML Communications to help communicate our complete brand message.
Between us, we are building a compelling Communications and PR platform to take the Pingar platform to the global market. It's exciting times ahead.
